Wilfred Laurier University Lazaridis Hall and Project Evergreen

Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) selected Applied Electronics as the audio visual systems integrator to equip its newly constructed 220,000 sq. ft. signature facility with the latest in audio visual, unified communication and collaboration technology. 

Additionally, WLU awarded Applied Electronics another large project known as Project Evergreen, which involved upgrading the existing analog equipment with the latest in AV equipment in five renovated buildings across WLU’s three campuses in Waterloo, Brantford and Milton.

Applied Electronics Facilitates Innovation at Wilfrid Laurier University’s New Lazaridis Hall and Through Project Evergreen.

The four-storey LEED Gold certified Lazaridis Hall, located in the heart of Kitchener, Ontario, is home to the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics and Laurier’s Department of Mathematics, as well as the Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises and Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation.

Lazaridis Hall not only serves the some of the most inspiring and technologically innovative students on campus, but it also enables the University to deliver integrated and engaging learning opportunities to students at the local and global levels.

The building features functional, bright and open atrium, seven state-of-the-art double-stacked drum-shaped lecture halls (75-300 seats each) that appears to ‘float’ above a glass-encased café, a two-level 1,000-seat elliptical auditorium, active learning classrooms to support new pedagogies, collaboration spaces, computer and math labs, meeting rooms, and 240 academic and administrative offices.

The project was completed on time and within budget. WLU celebrated the grand opening of Lazaridis Hall in May 2017.

Project Evergreen

In the same year, WLU awarded Applied Electronics another large project known as Project Evergreen, which involved upgrading the existing analog equipment with the latest in AV equipment in five renovated buildings across WLU’s three campuses in Waterloo, Brantford and Milton:

  • Regina Administration Building (Waterloo)
  • Martin Luther University College (Waterloo)
  • Frank C Peters Building (Waterloo)
  • Lazaridis Institute (Kitchener) 
  • One Market (Brantford)

Applied Electronics commenced integration of the new audio visual technology into the five buildings in 2017 and final installations were completed in 2019.

Project Evergreen complies with the CaGBC® Zero Carbon Building Standard by incorporating several innovative green features to these buildings, which led to a reduction in energy, water usage, and landfill waste.
